In Joomla the only serious issue I have with the CMS is the ability to name your page titles properly. We all know one of the most basic and often overlooked points of Search Engine Optimization when marketing a website is to have unique and detailed page titles. In Joomla this is not easily accomplished. Never the less it is paramount in getting your web pages ranked well in the organic search engines.
There are several plugins and extensions that can allow you to configure the page title and give you pretty URL’s. They are very large and complicated to set up. At this time I am a little intimidate by these and not ready to take that large of a jump. Enabling Joomla SEF solves the issues of having pretty URl’s quite nicely with very little effort. But we are still left with very generic page titles that are not helping with the search engines at all determine what your website pages are all about.
I did find this small plugin that allows you to sculpt you page titles a little. It allows you to rename your site name and through a little set up put it at the beginning or the end of the page title generated by Google. I am not saying here I will not try some of the larger extensions in the future, but for now it is doing a terrific job of getting me nice rankings in the search engines. Joomla Unlimited has been live for less than 2 months and is ranking second page for Joomla Website Design, and Joomla Website Designer. We are currently working on the keywords Joomla Business Website Design. This plugin has been doing a good job so far and will continue to monitor its success.
