As a SEO professional I find it exciting when a new perspective is presented to me that I can use in my arsenal to rank pages higher in the search engines. Search Engine Optimization is ever changing. This due to the search engine algorithms constantly changing.
The Search Engines, Google in particular is incessantly working at improving the way they display relevant content for any given search keyed into a browser.
The search engines change and add to their algorithm for two main reasons, both being very important for a SEO professional to be aware of.
- The first is so they can accurately provide the best and most relevant information to its users. Bottom line this is what makes Google the most popular search engine today.
- The second is to weed out the BS on the Internet. Yes and we all know there is alot out there. Unfortunately a great deal of the manipulated content is generated by SEO professionals. It is impossible to SEO content that is to be displayed to the search engines without manipulating it.
When any of us SEO professionals write, SEO, and publish content on the Internet it is manipulated. Up to this time we attempted to SEO content using effective keyword rich page titles, content, H-tags. Keyword density and keyword phrase manipulation was all the talk for years.
Talk around the SEO water cooler is Latent Semantic Indexing or LSI is being used by Google and rumour has it even Yahoo has this built into its algorithm.
I personally was introduced to Latent Semantic Indexing while attending the Oregon Search Engine Academy. I recently attended this Search Engine Optimization Academy in my attempt to stay on top of my game.
I have been studying LSI now for three months and deploying it on one of my Website Design and SEO websites that I market to the Portland Oregon and Seattle Washington Market. It is a Geo marketed website. It is targeting some pretty tough key word phrases such as Portland Oregon SEO and Portland OR Internet Marketing.
Combined with Industry accepted methods of SEO, Off page Optimization efforts and Latent Semantic Indexing efforts I have been having excellent results in the Organic Search Engines.
I think this addition to the mix Google and some of the other search engines is a industry shaker. It will definitely weed out some of the SEO professionals that do not stay up on the changes in our industry.
But most importantly it will definitely drown out the websites that are purely written for the search engines of old. I think keyword density and other elementary aspects of SEO will not be so important as good content. My hat is off to Google.
