In the online world, and in Website Design there is nothing more important than your business presentation. That means your Website needs to look professional and be filled with Quality Content and information for your visitors, not the search engines.
When Designing your Website it needs to be heavy in repetition with each page being consistent in layout, colour, and design. Your logo should be top left on every page with a catch phrase describing your business.
Today’s buzzwords in the Website creation industry are marketing, SEO, and links with not enough emphasis being placed on the most important element of website design…content! The content on your website can make or break your business, so it needs to be of exceptional quality and written in a clear and concise manner in everyday language.
The best way to prepare quality content for your website is by knowing what your visitors want. This content can consist of blogs, articles, helpful tools, audio or/and video clips, and/or links to interesting and entertainment resources, but no matter what the content is, it needs to be high quality, business related, and free of spelling and grammatical errors. These are necessary in the world of content.
While we are speaking of Content, every website should have an “About Us†page, which introduces and tells about you and your business. This page should be informative and contain all your contact information.
You’ll note that I am writing in short, descriptive paragraphs. That is because long paragraphs are hard on the eyes and becomes extremely boring, which causes your audience to lose interest. To prevent this, keep your font size not less than 12 point, in a clear font like Arial or Times Roman, and your paragraphs not more then 8 to 10 lines, approx. 100 words.
When Designing your Website pages it is best to remember that colour is important as well. Some colours like “Blue†are hard for people to see, especially senior and people with cataracts. Also, remember to break up your page by using headings and sub-headings, all darker colours than the text, or in complimentary colours to the text, but in bold and larger sizes. You can also break up your pages by using bulleted lists, images, short text blocks, and highlighted texts or headings.
Symmetry is a wonderful thing when used correctly. You need to balance your web page with blocks of text content, images and clips, and white space (white space is empty space on the page), as this is a real plus with your visitor, as well as the search engines.
So, remember when Designing your Website it is important to include quality content that is unique to your business, whether it be written, audio, or visual content. It is also important to remember that a well laid out page filled with great content will not only entice your visitors, but it will generate more traffic through the people they refer to your website.
At Joomla Unlimited we work in this manner, often times it is hard to balance the needs of the Search Engines, and the needs of good grammatical structure. A good Website Designer needs to learn this dance!
